0.4 FTE (negotiable) | Fixed-term project commencing July 2026 – 3 Months
Funded by Department of Health (FH2H Program)

Ability WA has secured Department of Health funding to establish a Pressure Care Cushion Library, providing timely access to specialist pressure-relieving cushions for people with disability who are at risk of pressure injuries.

Pressure injuries can significantly impact health, independence and quality of life, often leading to avoidable hospital admissions. Specialist cushions cost between $1,000 and $2,500, creating barriers to immediate access while funding is secured. This project will trial a library of up to 15 cushions and evaluate its impact on customer outcomes and hospital avoidance.

We are seeking an experienced Allied Health Professional (likely Occupational Therapist) to lead the implementation of this initiative.

About the Role

Reporting to the Strategic Project Manager, and with sponsorship and support from the Executive General Manager Therapy Services, the Project Lead will plan, implement and evaluate the Pressure Care Cushion Library, ensuring project objectives are achieved within scope, time frame and budget.

The successful applicant will establish the operational framework for the library, develop referral pathways and procedures, coordinate equipment management, and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support successful implementation and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of the Pressure Care Cushion Library project.
  • Develop project plans, referral pathways, operational procedures and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate the procurement, tracking and management of library equipment.
  • Build effective relationships with therapists, hospitals, discharge planners, community providers and suppliers.
  • Monitor project progress, risks and outcomes, ensuring agreed deliverables are achieved.
  • Collect, analyse and report on project outcomes, including health impacts and hospital avoidance measures.
  • Support the transition of project outcomes into business-as-usual operations.
  • Provide regular progress updates and final project reporting to stakeholders.

About You

You are an Allied Heath Professional with strong clinical knowledge related to pressure care, project coordination skills and a passion for improving outcomes for people with disability.

You will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy, and current AHPRA registration.
  • Experience working with people with disability and/or complex health needs.
  • Knowledge of pressure care, seating and assistive technology prescription.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects, manage competing priorities and achieve outcomes.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience developing systems, processes or service improvements.
  • Understanding of the NDIS and the principles of community inclusion, quality and safeguarding.
  • Strong alignment with Ability WA's values: Connect with Heart, Think Differently, Achieve Together and Make Things Happen.

Why Apply?

This is a unique opportunity to lead a project that has the potential to improve customer health outcomes, prevent avoidable hospitalisations and inform a sustainable pressure care equipment support model for people with disability.
